Community Garden

The Greystone Community Garden

Established in 2007 by community leaders Martha Leary and Marjorie Willison, the Greystone Community Garden was created to combat food insecurity and provide a safe, engaging space for families. Over the years, countless volunteers have contributed to making the garden a vibrant, welcoming place for the community.

The garden has continued to evolve. A youth beekeeping program began in 2017, and in 2022 Family SOS hired its first Garden Coordinator, revitalized the space with raised beds, and partnered with Abundant Acres to offer weekly fresh produce. Since then, coordinators have expanded volunteer opportunities, community plots, and partnerships—keeping the garden thriving and inclusive for everyone.

Despite occasional challenges, including vandalism, the Greystone Garden remains a flourishing space for growth, learning, and connection, fostering community resilience, healthy eating, and environmental stewardship.

Join us! Whether you’d like to volunteer, learn, or simply enjoy the space, there’s a place for everyone to grow with us.

The Community Garden is supported by the Walker Wood Foundation and in 2025 a new shed was funded by councillor Patty Cuttell.

Car Seat Safety Checks

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children, but using the right car seat correctly can reduce the risk of injury by up to 71%.

A 2024 Canadian roadside study of more than 1,000 children found that while 97% were buckled in some way,

81% of car seats and booster seats had at least one misuse,
44% of booster seat users had misrouted seat belts, and
37% of children in seat belts did not fit safely without a booster.

These numbers show that caregivers are doing their best, but many simply need more support and guidance — and we’re here to help.
