Food and Essentials Support
The Community Market
In partnership with Feed Nova Scotia and the J&W Murphy Foundation, Family SOS hosts a free Community Market every Friday from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at 4 Cranberry Court. Each week, more than 130 families receive fresh food support, with over 550 families registered.
Thanks to our partners and donors, households receive staples like eggs, milk, potatoes, apples, bananas, and pasta, with snacks and meats available as supplies allow. The Community Market is proudly supported by Second Harvest, Grocery Foundation Atlantic, RBC Community Grant, and the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia.

The Lunchbox Project
Thanks to the generous and ongoing support of the J&W Murphy Foundation, our onsite chef prepares free, vegetarian healthy meals for more than 600 students and community members each week.
From September to June, these nutritious lunches are served:
Tuesdays and Wednesdays at J.L. Ilsley High School
During our Community Market in Spryfield
Each meal is made with care and a focus on freshness, balance, and flavor. Some community favourites include wraps, stir-fries with rice, curries, and our much-loved macaroni and cheese.
The Lunchbox Project helps nourish both bodies and community connections, ensuring everyone has access to healthy food made with heart.
Car Seat Safety Checks
Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children, but using the right car seat correctly can reduce the risk of injury by up to 71%. A 2024 Canadian roadside study of more than 1,000 children found that while 97% were buckled in some way:
81% of car seats and booster seats had at least one misuse,
44% of booster seat users had misrouted seat belts, and
37% of children in seat belts did not fit safely without a booster.
These numbers show that caregivers are doing their best, but many simply need more support and guidance — and we’re here to help.
Our Car Seat Safety Checks helps you:
